Our Heart Dog
We purchased our first Vizsla, Sava, to be a hunting companion. He turned out to be an unbelievable hunter with a nose that could locate a bird 20 plus yards away. We wanted a female but found ourselves 4th in line in a litter that produced 3 females - so we went home with Sava and we never looked back. He will always be our perfect 10. His temperament was what all Vizslas should aspire to; sweet, loving, gentle and always willing to please. In obedience classes, he was never used as an example because he never did anything wrong. Sava's breeder encouraged me to show him in AKC conformation. I had no clue what showing entailed until I went to my first dog show when he was 9 months old. He won the 6 - 9 month puppy class. I jumped up and down and did the happy dance. I had no clue that was not how you are supposed to act when you win at a dog show. Sava went on to complete his AKC conformation championship by the time he was 18 months of age. He has won several Best of Breed competitions, including Best of Breed and Best Opposite Sex at back-to-back Cow Palace dog shows. We then began to participate in AKC Hunt Tests. He sailed through Junior Hunter and Senior Hunter so I decided to complete Master Hunter with him. Little did I know how very hard this level is to achieve. But he and I did it - well it was mostly him. I was just along for the ride.
Line-bred to Gracie, Sava became the foundation sire of our line and I continue see a little of him in all of the puppies we produce. We are hoping for another Sava some day.
